Introduction

Coming up with a plan to up your curb appeal doesn’t have to be difficult. It’s actually fairly simple to make your front yard look expensive without spending a dime. In fact, there are plenty of great ideas that can be achieved for free or with a minimal amount of time and effort. Here are ten of my favourite ideas for making your front yard look expensive without spending a dime.

Make your front yard look expensive without spending a dime

Design an expensive grill A simple one-pan grill will do you no favours if you’re trying to make your front yard look expensive. Get one of those fancy ones with all the bells and whistles on it, with a heavy-duty mesh and stainless steel surface and a large stainless steel bowl on top. Then, get some cheap BBQs and cheap charcoal. And fill the little meat grills with gourmet burgers, hot dogs and skewered chicken breasts, with all kinds of delicious sides. Make your front yard look expensive without spending a dime. Lift up your stucco Chalkboards look great in almost every yard. If your house has one, even better. But if not, an inexpensive board will do. Cut your wooden boards into a rectangular shape, and then spray-paint them a nice shade of white.

1. Colourful flowers

Gardeners often refer to the colour yellow as “lemonade.” With such a popular colour in mind, there are plenty of great ways to experiment with yellow in your front yard. Here are three of my favourites. First up, I always look to get peonies. Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they also come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Choosing the right size will make your flowers last longer. A good rule of thumb for this is to buy an extra-large container to plant your flowers in and plant up to 3-4 flowers per pot. Be sure to plant your peonies well away from your driveway and street, as they will be exposed to the elements. Make sure that the cut stems are kept inside of your pot until they are ready to bloom. This way, you will have a chance to see and enjoy the flowers.

2. Pop-of colour

Before landscaping, consider going for a pop of colour with some bright, lively potted plants. Pop potted plants in between the stones of your front yard and your lawn as a splash of colour. This helps to add a bit of “pop” and interest to your garden. Also, you can always extend these pop-of-colour potted plants around the entire yard – a great idea if you want to add a splash of colour to any area of your garden. Installing a bird feeder Bird feeders are a great way to get some natural beauty around your home. These birds are great additions to any yard – and there are many different designs and varieties of bird feeders you can buy to get creative with. Besides adding a splash of colour and adding some natural wildlife to your garden, bird feeders are fun for kids and parents. Keep reading below for more front yard with driveway landscaping ideas.

3. Stunning greenery

There’s no better way to instantly look expensive than with an outdoor living space that includes stunning greenery. Whether it’s a vine that wraps around a property or a garden of stunning flowering shrubs, make the most of them. Give them some TLC and display them on mantels, back patios or balconies so you can make your property look as though it’s from a luxury estate agent’s home. A waterfall or water feature is a stylish way to help your garden look expensive. They can be set up in different ways so you can really maximize the impact of your display. You can display it under a gazebo or as part of a gorgeous garden pond. Gather a few flower pots and fill them with water, and surrounding the waterfall are a few colourful planters.

4. Interesting art

Artwork can be installed without spending a dime by hanging them on your house or building a small, simple art gallery out of wooden pallets and a cinder block wall. If you want to put something on the ground, you could buy one of those fancy self-adhesive velvet canvases. This is a great way to display unique art and in style, too! Baskets Wooden baskets can be built into outdoor kitchens and flower pots. They look especially beautiful on front porches or by the front door. Baskets can be used to hold a single flower, or you can buy fancy metal ones and hang them vertically. Interior paint To bring some colour to your home exterior, you can purchase interior paint and apply it to exterior siding. It doesn’t have to be a fancy kind of paint.

5. Lighting

Lighting is one of the most effective front yard “improvements.” After all, you should be able to see yourself from the road. And you definitely want your front yard to provide good lighting for other people, too. In fact, more people will notice your front yard if you provide lighting versus just having a green lawn. One great way to achieve this is to use strategically placed LED lights and ribbon lights on trees and bushes. You can even paint illuminated post-it notes to provide illumination under patio umbrellas or wherever you might need extra light. I’ve found that using ribbon lights along a retaining wall will make it look like a decorative metalwork feature. And if you have a large tree in your front yard, you can even hang illuminated “rooftop” lights on the tree.

6. Interesting furniture

Just because you can’t afford the real deal doesn’t mean that you can’t do it justice with a few inexpensive yet stunning pieces. Old barn board chairs are a great example of this. They’re simple but attractive and can be easily swapped out for different-coloured ones. If you have many nice vintages finds lying around, you can combine them with yard seating from any number of places and put together a great place to enjoy your afternoon coffee. Burgundy pots and planters There are loads of gorgeous burgundy pots and planters out there for a very reasonable price. Just make sure you don’t go overboard. If you live in an apartment building, stick to pots that will fit in easily with your neighbours. If you live in a detached house, stick with black pots.

7. Unique pot plants

The first tip, and the cheapest one, is to create unusual pot plants that catch the eye and make your property look like you put a ton of money into it. Replace your brown gardenias with white chrysanthemums for just $1.50 per plant. Fill your pots with various orange, red, orange and yellow flowers for $2.50 a pot. Purchase a simple fish pond that makes your garden look like a country cottage for a few pennies. It might even be nice to add a simple swing for your kids so they can have a go at this for a few pennies. How about some flowers for your patio? Adding small flower pots filled with succulents, succulents and small plants to your patio will make your space look very expensive.

8. Interesting paths

Not sure what your front yard has going for it? Try arranging some interesting paths for people to walk down. Or maybe the garden bed in front of your house is the best in the neighbourhood, and it would look good even if no one walked along with it. Make sure the paths look neat. You can do this by using paving stones or pavers in your walkways. This is a low-cost approach to adding an interesting visual element to your front yard. Designate a ‘secret garden‘ Cacti don’t usually attract many visitors, but if you can dedicate an area of your front yard to cacti, it will look great. If it’s not appropriate for the entire front yard, then a section of grass with one or more cacti planted in it will look good.
